John the Baptist says to Jesus in the movie The Last
Temptation of Christ, “The God of Israel is a god of the desert. If you want to
speak to Him, then you'll have to go to the desert.” Then adds, but “Be careful. God isn't alone out there.”*
Mark’s Gospel for tomorrow reports, “And the Spirit
immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty
days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited
on him.”
