The Collect:

O God, by the passion of your blessed Son you made an instrument of shameful death to be for us the means of life: Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly suffer shame and loss for the sake of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All ready to go for Palm Sunday and Holy Week 2021! Easter and new life are coming...

God, I thank you for all those who faithfully show up quietly - in the right place, and at the right time - to help. They refresh, and cheer me when I get weary, or worried. God, help me to listen to you, and to others, so that I might do the same in love for them. Amen.

Palm Sunday and Holy Week Begin Tomorrow

Jesus said,” If anyone would come after me, let him deny
himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Mark 8:34

Friday, March 26, 2021

Good Night!

O God, your unfailing providence sustains the world we live
in and the life we live: Watch over those, both night and day,
who work while others sleep, and grant that we may never
forget that our common life depends upon each other’s toil;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Palmettos

Gathering a slew of palmettos down by the slough for Palm Sunday decorating and palm crosses. No palmettos or slough creatures were infected with any “bugs” from this priest in the collection of greenery - actually the mask keeps real bugs and pollen out very nicely! 🙂

From the Governor

Good News for the start of Holy Week! Go get yours!

New from Bishop Jake

Easter renews our hope. I expect Bishop Jake Owensby’s new book will do the same! Dawnell and I got our copy delivered from Amazon last night!

We look forward to getting it signed soon - an advantage of a real copy - but it is available on Kindle and other e-book formats too. The last time I got a Kindle copy signed, it took forever to the the Sharpie off my Kindle screen. 😉

Annunciation of Our Lord

The Annunciation - Henry Ossawa Tanner

Annunciation of Our Lord

Today is the feast of The Annunciation of Our Lord Jesus Christ to the Blessed Virgin Mary. When the angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary and said, ‘Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.’ She was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

The Collect:

Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Almighty God, you called your servant Óscar Romero to be a voice for the voiceless poor, and to give his life as a seed of freedom and a sign of hope: Grant that we, inspired by his sacrifice and the example of the martyrs of El Salvador, may without fear or favor witness to your Word who abides, your Word who is Life, even Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be praise and glory now and for ever. Amen.

Scams!

This came up in our clergy gathering today. We are all susceptible to scams - especially right now - following many local disasters and the pandemic - be careful - even if the commutation appears to come from some you know - Especially Bishop Jake Owensby, or the National Church or local church! We don't want anyone scammed. When in doubt - check it out thoroughly. Great info here...https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/file/21839/download?token=ujakKk5R

For This Morning

In the Morning - From Psalm 51

Open my lips, O Lord, *
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, *
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence *
and take not your holy Spirit from me.
Give me the joy of your saving help again *
and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Hope

“Remember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”

That is what Andy tells his friend Red in the film, The Shawshank Redemption. It allows Andy and Red to endure the dark and danger of prison until the day of their freedom.

 May hope sustain us! Amen.

Spring Forward - This Saturday Night

Spring Forward on Saturday night before you go to bed and we'll see you in church ON TIME for The Fourth Sunday in Lent!

Gregory the Great

Today is the feast day of Gregory the Great, Bishop and Theologian, 604. The Church remembers Gregory, whose sermons are still readable today, and it is not without reason that he is accounted, along with Ambrose, Jerome, and Augustine of Hippo, as one of the Four Latin Doctors, meaning Teachers, of the ancient Church.

 The Collect of the day:

Almighty and merciful God, you raised up Gregory of Rome to be a servant of the servants of God, and inspired him to send missionaries to preach the Gospel to the English people: Preserve in your church the catholic and apostolic faith they taught, that your people, being fruitful in every good work, may receive the crown of glory that never fades away; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Remember

Remember

Remembrance Day, observed in Commonwealth nations on November 11, holds much the same meaning as America’s Veterans Day. Celebrated throughout the entire Commonwealth on November 11 since the end of WWI, Remembrance Day actually marks Armistice Day — the day on which the hostilities between the Allies and Germany ceased on the Western Front. (The Commonwealth includes 53 member states, nearly all of them former territories of the British Empire.)

“Remembering” is one of the tasks of all people, and especially Christians. In this season, we say “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” We remember before God those for who we pray, and every time we celebrate the Eucharist, we do so with these words, “Do this in remembrance of me.” Remembering makes us participants in the life of our ancestors in – literal and spiritual – and reminds us who we are.

Most importantly, we pray and trust that God “remembers” us and that God remembers the promises made to us and our ancestors, even when we fail to do so. Amen.

Gregory of Nyssa, Bishop and Theologian

Gregory of Nyssa, Bishop and Theologian, c. 394

Today, the Church remembers St. Gregory of Nyssa, Bishop and Theologian.

There is a wonderful and very unique St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco. You might enjoy visiting there website here - https://www.saintgregorys.org/

 The Collect:

Almighty God, who has revealed to your Church your eternal Being of glorious majesty and perfect love as one God in Trinity of Persons: Give us grace that, like your bishop Gregory of Nyssa, we may continue steadfast in the confession of this faith, and constant in our worship of you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Virtual Diocesan Convention a Success

On Saturday, February 27, the diocese gathered virtually via Zoom for the 42nd Annual Diocesan Convention. The meeting was much like the usual in-person event. The participants voted on diocesan elections, heard reports on finance, Camp Hardtner, and watched highlights on new diocesan ministries.

The Bishop's Staff would like to extend gratitude to the clergy, delegates, and online visitors that participated in the virtual event. It was a great success. We look forward to gathering again in 2022!
