Small World... Small Church!
One of my seminary classmates, Kathryn L King, had her 20th ordination anniversary yesterday. We discovered that she was baptized at St. Alban's by her father Alan King, who served at St. Alban's many years ago. You may remember, we posted a notice of his death last year.
Here is a photo of Kathryn and her Dad (at baptism and ordination as a deacon). Anyone remember? Believe it or not - She currently serves at a St. Alban's in New Jersey! Small world!

O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Wednesday at St. Alban's
“Nobody ever uses new, unshrunk material to patch a dress
that has been washed. For it shrinking, it will pull the old material and make
a tear. Nor do people put new tubes in old, bald tires. It they do, the tires
will blow out, and the tubes will be ruined and the tires will be torn up. But
they put new tubes in new tires and both give good mileage.”
Join us today, Wednesday, October 7 for Marys and Marthas at 3:45 p.m., Blessing of the Animals at 5:30 p.m. and Men's Study Group Movie Night at 6:15 p.m. Who knows, it might improve your mileage!

A Thought from Garrett
St. Alban’s discernment candidate, Garrett Boyte, shared this with me from his journal…
“This is a thought I've been mulling over for a while and today it became concrete for me.
————
Earlier today I was helping a friend of a friend. This young woman had a massive four poster King size bed made of real wood. I had already moved the bed from her mother's house to her new house, and I had started the two hour process of putting this behemoth together.
My friend's friend is a single mother with a young daughter. Of course, I was happy to help. I've always had a penchant for single mothers because I believe it takes a great deal of strength to do what they do.

For September 11 - Matthew 5:1-10
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
