Changes and Chances
Another one of my favorite
prayers from Compline.
Let us pray.
Be present, O merciful
God, and protect us through the hours
of this night, so that we
who are wearied by the changes and
chances of this life may
rest in your eternal changelessness;
through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.
Good night! Sleep well.

The Feast of Saint Alban
Today is Monday, June twenty-second – The Feast of Saint Alban, our patron saint. Alban was the first martyr of Britain, and died circa 304.
Happy Anniversary!
One year ago today, the Rev'd Lee Jefferson was ordained a priest at St. Mark's Cathedral in Shreveport. What a full, wonderful, and difficult year of ministry it has been! Join me in thanking God for Lee's ministry. Lee told me yesterday, that he feels like a sophomore now. 🙂

A Psalm of Lament
A Psalm of Lament is from Sr. Miriam Elizabeth, on of the nuns at The Order of Saint Helena, in North Augusta, South Carolina.
A Psalm of Lament From One Woman
Holy God, we cry out as viruses are stealing our breath.
A virus that is new in this age and another that is centuries old –
pustules of infection passed from generation to generation.
The people are brought to their knees as they suffocate.
God, have mercy.
Holy God, we cry out as the contagions of COVID-19
And systemic racism are ravaging lives.
One contagion affects another and many have suffered of body and soul.
I am brought to my knees as I grieve.
God, have mercy.
Holy God, we cry out at generations of systemic injustice.
We confess our privilege and ignorance, our silence and complicity,
Seeking to purge our unwillingness to discern lies from truth.
The people are brought to their knees, sorrow and anger seeking justice.
God, have mercy.
Holy God we cry out “How long? How many more must die?”
Keening against viruses that are visible and invisible.
In my thirst, I drink my own tears.
I am brought to my knees, unquenched and exhausted.
God, have mercy.
-Sr. Miriam Elizabeth, OSH

The Song of Simeon
The essential evening and nighttime prayer of the church is The Song of Simeon, or Nunc dimittis. It speaks of the ability to die in peace because the hope of seeing the Savior has been fulfilled. This hope is the glory of God’s people, Israel, and is a blessing to all the nations. It is a fulfillment of one of God’s promises to Abraham and Sarah.

Worth a Watch from the Creator of Veggie Tales
Shared by Bishop Jake from Holy Post Podcast - www.holypost.com Bishop Jakes says, "Please watch the brief video by the creator of Veggie Tales. If you think racism is only about your personal attitude about or even your actions toward people of color, this will help you understand systemic racism. Also, if you think the video picks on Republicans early on, just wait. The Democrats get their critical treatment later on. Racism is not about personal prejudice only. Read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest.
