One thing is for sure, our fortune is always in God's hands. It is easier to believe that when the fortune is good news - and harder when the news is bad. That does not mean that when bad things come our way - God has sent them. It means something more like, whatever comes our way - God is with us. God takes us where we are and lays opportunities before us that draw us toward something life giving and good. God is always at work inviting us to something better. That is what God's love looks like...
