A Prayer for Camp Hardtner

Summer is here! Training Camp at Camp Hardtner begins today, May 24, 2012. Father Whit will serve again this year on the Training Camp staff and as Dean of Primary Camp - June 7 - 12. St. Alban's own, George Flynn and Will Phelps will serve as a members of the permanent staff (the college-aged young people that staff the camp) this year.

To keep the ministry of Camp Hardtner in our hearts and minds, we will add the following prayer to our Prayers of the People each week. We invite you to add this prayer to your daily prayers as well.

A Prayer for Camp Hardtner

Gracious and loving God, we give you thanks for Hardtner, our diocesan camp. We pray for all those who play, rest, volunteer, work and worship there. May it be a place of spiritual growth, fellowship, joy and love. And may all those who live there, labor there, visit and travel there be protected by your grace, through your Son our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Pentecost Sunday Eucharist Moved Indoors

The outdoor Pentecost Holy Eucharist scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 27 has been moved indoors. This is due to predicted high temperatures for that day. The current prediction is that temperatures will reach a high of 95 degrees..It should be a bit cooler and more comfortable in the church!

New D.O.K. members will be installed and recent graduates will be honored. Following the Eucharist, we will join together in McLean hall for a parish potluck lunch. Please wear red and join us for a wonderful celebration!

Note: Regular worship at 8:30 a.m. and Adult Education Class at 9:15 a.m. will continue as scheduled. 

Ascension Day

St. Alban’s will celebrate Ascension Day on Thursday, May 17 with Holy Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. Come and find out why Ascension Day is one of the Church’s principal feast days. Ascension Day always falls forty days after Easter and marks the end of Jesus’ post resurrection appearances to his disciples.

Mother's Day

This Sunday, May 13, 2012 is Mother's Day. May we all give thanks for our mothers with this prayer... Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Verbeck to Visit

On the Sixth Sunday of  Easter, May 13, 2012, which is also Mother’s Day, the Rev’d Guido Verbeck will celebrate and preach at St. Alban’s. Father Verbeck recently retired as the rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport and served as rector at St. Alban’s. Please give Fr. Verbeck a warm welcome and let him know we’re glad he is with us.

Fr. Verbeck is filling in for Fr. Whit who will be away that Sunday.
